Blacktown City Council has appointed Sydney independent agency Murmur Group as lead strategic and media agency for the launch of the new Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre (BARC).

BARC is a $36.1 million animal rehoming centre in Blacktown City which is replacing Blacktown Council’s 40-year-old facility in Prospect. The centre will be the first of its kind in Australia and one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

BARC has been established as a communal environment for individuals to come and adopt pets, and is expecting to rehome over 10,000 animals each year, taking in lost and abandoned pets from across Western Sydney. The facilities will include a large reception and adoption area, kennels, catteries, vet facilities, function space, and exercise yards.

Murmur Group’s managing director, Dave Levett said: “The Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre is going to change the face of animal ownership and animal care in Sydney. The scope for the centre and the people of Western Centre is undeniable, and improving animal care is a goal that we want to help the team work towards."

Robert Grieve, executive manager communications and marketing, Blacktown City Council said: “BARC is a project we at Council are immensely proud of, and want our promotion to reflect this – Murmur comes with first rate credentials and have shown they appreciate the importance of this facility and share our vision for bringing it to market.”
