Meta muzzles Muse

Meta has pulled a product enhancement, Muse Image via Meta AI, following concerns it would be used to generate images with photos from accounts on Instagram.

Independent federal MP Allegra Spender spoke out against the product and immediately opted out of Muse.

“I just heard about Meta’s new AI image generation tool, and I’m really worried about it,” she said.

“This means that Meta automatically opts in for your public Instagram photos to be used for AI generation by anyone.”

Meta launched Muse Image last week, the social media platform’s first image generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Muse Image was also planned for Facebook, Messenger, and for advertisers through Meta Advantage+ creative.

"Earlier this week, we announced that one way for people to generate images in Meta AI is by mentioning public Instagram accounts that they want to reference,” Meta said.

“Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way.

“We've heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it's no longer available."
