Meta is expanding its advertising offerings across Threads and will begin to launch ads to all users globally from next week.

Ads have been available on Threads in Australia since April 2025, with the expansion offering advertisers an opportunity to reach consumers across every market available on the social media platform.

Meta has recently announced updates to the platform, including a new ad format 4:5 aspect ratio, carousel, and Advantage+ catalog/apps.

Threads accounts can also be managed alongside Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in business settings.

They introduced third-party brand safety, suitability verification and campaign extension.

Australian businesses can extend their Meta campaigns to Threads, reaching more than 400 million monthly active users globally.

Will Easton, managing director Meta ANZ, said Australian businesses have benefited from being part of the initial roll-out of advertising across threads, with the global launch offering brands greater opportunities to connect with new communities.

"Australian businesses have been among the first globally to tap into the power of ads on Threads, and we’ve seen strong interest and creative campaigns since the launch,” he said.

“Now, as Threads expands ads to users worldwide, brands here have an even greater opportunity to connect with more than 400 million people globally, joining public conversations that shape culture and broaden perspectives.

“With new ad formats, enhanced brand safety features, and seamless campaign management across Meta’s platforms, we’re excited to see our partners continue to innovate, share what matters, and build authentic connections in this dynamic space."

The update comes after OpenAI announced that it will begin testing advertising across its Chat GPT free and Go tiers in the U.S.
