Menulog, with its multi-million dollar advertising spend, has closed in Australia after 20 years due to “challenging circumstances”.
The food delivery platform's creative agency of record is Thinkerbell, which recently released a campaign, What’s good in your hood?
Thinkerbell has been approached for comment. Media agency of record UM has declined to issue a statement.
Menulog recorded ad spend of $3.8 million in the September quarter this year, up 28.6%, according to Guideline SMI numbers.
The platform’s last orders will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
"Today is a tough day for the Menulog business and I would like to reassure everyone this decision was not taken lightly,” said Menulog managing director Morten Belling.
“Our priority now is to support our customers, couriers and partners.
“This is why we are providing everyone a two-week transition period, in which customers can redeem unused vouchers and credits. Additionally, eligible couriers will be entitled to a four-week voluntary payment.
“We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has partnered and supported Menulog over the years."
In its full-year 2024 results, parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com confirmed 85% of its gross transaction value (GTV) now comes from its growing and profitable Europe and UK and Ireland segments.
Meanwhile, adjusted EBITDA losses in Southern Europe and Australia narrowed slightly to €80 million (about A$142 million) for the year, down from €82 million (about A$145 million) a year earlier. This was followed by a further fall in revenue in the first half of 2025.
Just Eat Takeaway.com cut 20% of its global marketing budget in February last year.
Operations in New Zealand were ceased in May 2024.
