MediaCom has hired Publicis chief financial officer Stephen Meares as its new commercial director.

The GroupM agency has made its first appointments since the departure of Mark Pejic, with Meares tasked to “ensure the delivery of best in class financial reporting and commercial growth”.

Last week it emerged that now ex-CEO of MediaCom Mark Pejic had departed the agency to take up a role with IPG Mediabrands in Melbourne, with Mark Heap installed as interim CEO.

Meares has been with Publicis Mojo for just under five years, and will report in to Heap and new GroupM chief financial officer Jeff Hunt.

His main task will be to develop the “financial and commercial product” for MediaCom, while delivering “best in class financial reporting”.

Together with Meares, new arrival Dean Rawnsley will become MediaCom's commercial manager.

Ranwsley was a senior production accountant at production house Animal Logic most recently, but has previous experience in agency land with outfits such as Dentsu Aegis, Publicis, and GPY&R.

Meares will begin tomorrow while Rawnsley has started with the agency immediately.
