OMD's Big Day Out.

More than 180 media owners took part in OMD's annual Big Day Out event in Sydney this week.

In its third year, the event helps media owners better understand what OMD clients are looking for and their business challenges.

AdNews attended this year's event and was given an interesting insight into the marketing needs of Telstra, eHarmony and Estee Lauder. Other brands represented on the day included Qantas, McDonald’s, TAB, Ancestry and Beiersdorf.

The event is a clever way to help media owners connect with OMD's client teams and ask questions about how their media brands fit in.

Seven West Media chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette, who attended the event, said it does a “wonderful job of sharing client objectives in an entertaining and memorable format”.

“There is absolutely no question that the very best work for advertisers comes from collaboration and the sharing of insights between media owner and media agency,” Burnette says. “It better enables us as media owners to respond with ideas in an effective and relevant way.”

“Today was another great day for our agency,” OMD Australia chief executive Aimee Buchanan added. “Our Big Day Out events are an opportunity for us to acknowledge and thank our media partners for the contribution they make to our agency and our clients. The Sydney team did an outstanding job displaying incredible passion and knowledge of their clients.”

Big Day Out is also a rare opportunity some of OMD's finest actors to showcase their talent in front of key TV and radio decision makers.

AdNews enjoyed OMD Telstra team's attempt at pulling off Game of Thrones but reckons Kit Harrington's (Jon Snow) job might be safe for at least another year.
