McDonald's wants to be top of mind when consumers wake up in the morning, with the brand launching a new prize-giving alarm app.

Macca's Prize Alarm asks people to set their morning alarm via the app and in return for waking up with McDonald's you can win prizes.

The fast-food chain has partnered with Hoyts, Quickflix, Event Cinema's Gold Class and Surf Stitch, just to name a few, with the brand giving away more than four million prizes during the promotion period.

The app is also aiming to drive sign-ups to the restaurant chain's loyalty offering, My Macca's, with consumers unable to win prizes until they join the program.

The app seems to also have the aim of driving foot traffic with certain prizes needing to be claimed within a 24 hour period.

As part of the alarm function on the app, users get to choose the sound that they want to wake up to. Users can choose the calming sound of the sea, the song of an ice-cream truck, or if you're a real Macca's fanatic, even the “I'm lovin' it” jingle.

The morning alarm comes as the brand rolls-out its 24 hour breakfast offering in this market, as well as a marketing push for its loaded fries.

This isn't the first prize promotion the brand has run this year, with Macca's bringing back its popular Monopoly promotion.

It is understood Macca's Prize Alarm is a local adaptation of a global promotion.
