M&C Saatchi has appointed Michael McEwan as managing director of its Melbourne agency.

McEwan joins the agency after nine years at Ogilvy Melbourne, of which he spent the last five years as joint managing director.

McEwan says joining M&C Saatchi Melbourne is a "tremendous" opportunity.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with many talented and wonderful people – it’s what motivates me and M&C Saatchi is a formidable brand with an enormous depth of talent across the group," he says.

"With its strong focus on innovation, I’m really excited to be joining the team."

McEwan commenced his career at Y&R before spending nine years with Clemenger BBDO in Melbourne and BBDO Asia Pacific.

With more than 23 years’ experience working with some of the world’s most famous brands both locally and internationally, McEwan’s experience spans multiple categories including finance, superannuation, packaged goods, retail, automotive, tourism, education, telecommunications, community service, State and Federal Government.

M&C Saatchi CEO Jaimes Leggett says that McEwan brings a unique combination of talent and leadership to the role.
“We’re thrilled Michael is joining the agency,” he said.

“He’s razor-sharp – equally at home in a strategy session as he is judging creative," Leggett says.

"But perhaps most importantly, he’s an incredible people-centred leader, well respected by staff and clients alike. He is absolutely the right person for the agency.”

McEwan replaces Andy Cairns who, according to his LinkedIn, has left the business to begin consulting.

Cairns joined the agency two years, returning to Australia after working in London for several years.
