Former Mad Mex marketer Nick Cook has joined Oporto as head of marketing, moving into the role after more than five years with the Mexican QSR brand, AdNews can report.

Cook spent five years as Mad Mex general manager of marketing, joining the business in June 2021.

He previously spent five years at Hyundai Motor Company Australia, where he held roles including marketing strategy lead and brand and product marketing manager.

His agency career includes three years as business director at Saatchi & Saatchi Australia, working across clients including Mondelez and H&R Block.

Cook said Oporto's brand strength was a major attraction.

“Oporto has incredible brand equity and is one of Australia's most iconic QSR brands,” Cook told AdNews.

“I'm excited to join the team and I'm looking forward to bringing some new thinking to the table to help write the next chapter of the brand's story.”

Oporto CEO Therese Frangie said Cook's willingness to challenge established thinking was a key reason for the appointment.

“Nick is a great marketer who isn’t afraid to challenge the norm, which is exactly the energy we value at Oporto,” Frangie told AdNews.

“He has a proven track record of building brands, driving growth, and bringing bold ideas to life. I am excited to have him on board as we lead Australia's largest Portuguese QSR brand into its new growth era.”

Cook was also named a Marketing Academy Australia scholar in 2023, joining a cohort of 30 marketing, media and agency executives selected for the program.

Atomic 212° currently handles Oporto's media account.
