SCA’s LiSTNR has partnered with independent news publisher Schwartz Media to host its existing podcasts on the platform, as well as coproduce new journalist-led podcasts in the future.

As part of the deal, Schwartz Media’s daily news podcast 7am and its weekly arts and entertainment podcast The Culture will now be available on the LiSTNR app. SCA launched LiSTNR in February as a free app offering radio, podcasts, music, and news.

“LiSTNR has a strong commitment to news and information and has developed a number of successful original podcasts with The Briefing and Australia Today and a series of local news shortcasts for communities right across Australia,” says LiSTNR general manager of digital audio Grant Tothill.

“To be able to add 7am and The Culture podcasts to LiSTNR, coupled with the opportunity to develop new podcasts in collaboration with Schwartz Media Editor-in-Chief Erik Jensen and Osman at Schwartz, and our new head of news, Melanie Withnall, is very exciting.”

In the most recent Podcast Ranker, 7am was in the top five with 452,085 monthly listeners and 1.5 million monthly downloads for October.

“Schwartz Media has never had a larger audience than it does now,” says Schwartz Media CEO Rebecca Costello.

“Whether it’s through our print or digital products, or our podcasts, our audience has come to trust and rely on our journalism. Partnering with SCA gives us an even larger platform to present intelligent and independent coverage of the issues that matter.”
