Leo Burnett Melbourne has appointed Christopher Steele as its new head of social as it looks to boost its digital capabilities.

Steele joined Leo Burnett two years ago and has worked across a range of accounts including #SPC Sunday and the highly awarded Slurpee 'Expandinator'.

He has more than six years experience across digital marketing, social media strategy and community management.

Steele previously worked as group social media manager for catchoftheday.com.au, across its deal site including catchoftheday, scoopon and groceryrun.

He also spent two years on the social team at EB Games.

Leo Burnett Melbourne CEO Melinda Geertz said the agency was proud to promote talent from within.

“Chris earns our respect every day,” Geertz said.

“He has a wealth of digital and social media expertise, but more importantly, he brings intelligence, ambition, humanity and passion to this part of our business. Social is a vital and growing service for us, and Chris will lead that discipline brilliantly.”

Steele added: 'I'm thrilled to be part of an agency that values social as a channel for creativity and where I can be part of a dynamic integrated team. It's an honour to take on this new leadership role at Leo Burnett.”
