Sydney:

The tight run two-horse race in the Sydney FM breakfast radio stakes might be over, with Kiis1065's Kyle and Jackie O holding onto their lead for the third Gfk ratings period in a row.

Despite falling 0.3 percentage points, Kyle and Jackie O reached 10.4% audience share against WSFM's Jonesy and Amanda, who reached 8.7% audience share after picking up 0.3 percentage points. The breakfast teams spent much of last year fighting it out over the top spot in the FM breakfast ratings.

2GB remains miles ahead in overall breakfast on 15.9% audience share, despite falling 0.9 percentage points over the period. ABC702 fell behind Kyle and Jackie O once again, after a 1.3 percentage point slide saw the station finish on 10.2% audience.

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA)'s Today's Hit breakfast team of Dan and Maz failed to gain traction for the second ratings period in a row, sliding 0.2 percentage points in the period to finish on 2.8% audience share. 2Day Hit104.1 also had the biggest shift in demographic, dropping by 3.8 percentage points in the 10-17 demographic to reach 5.6% audience. SmoothFM picked up the biggest gain in demographic, with a 3.5 percentage point boost in the 10-17 bracket to reach 7.7% audience share.

In drive time, Nova's Kate, Tim and Marty still rein supreme , picking up 0.6 percentage points to reach 11.5% audience share. However, Kiis' Hughesy and Kate are clipping at their heels picking up 0.8 percentage points to reach 10.0% audience share. 2GB's Ben Fordham dropped 1.8 percentage points in drive finishing on 9.1% audience share.

Melbourne - 3AW continues to ride the wave as Nova and FoxFM slip

3AW continues to reign supreme in Melbourne, winning all time slots due to its 65+ audience growth, with Triple J continuing to build up its youth audience at the expense of SCA's FoxFM and Nova 100.

The latest radio ratings survey saw 3AW increase its lead in all timeslots, growing in all demographics except for 25-39.

It managed to win the battle for breakfast, increasing its lead from ABC774 by another two points, with its share hitting 20.1%.

It also won the competitive drive slot, adding another 1.9 points to a share of 12.5%, with SCA's FoxFM dipping slightly and Nova holding steady.

Of concern to Nova would be a massive drop in people 10-17 listening, with a 5.3% plunge during the ratings period, and although it held steady in 18-24 it shed 1.2 points in 25-39 to end up with a 12.2% share.

After massive gains during the previous ratings period, Triple J did slip back in several categories, although it managed to mostly hold steady with it taking advantage of Nova's slip in 25-39 to lead the way.

It also managed to take home the 18-24 demographic on the back of a 3.4 point gain and a 1.7 point slip from FoxFM.

Perth:

Lead commercial stations show overall drop, but Nova makes gains in breakfast

SCA station Mix 94.5’s 1 point gain in the last ratings survey has been lost in this period, taking its audience back down to a 13.9% share where last time it had captured 15.2% of the overall listening market.

Mix's nearest competitor in the market - ARN-owned 96FM has also seen a drop, but not as large – only 0.2 points to take its share down to 11.3%. It’s a similar picture for Nova's 93.7, which is down 0.3 points to 11.1%. This is the second successive period in which Nova 93.7 has fallen – in the last ratings it 1.4 points to 11.4%. ABC720, meanwhile, has climbed another fraction this survey and sits comfortably with 10.7% share, up 0.4 points.

ABC720 continues to lead breakfast with 15% of the listening audience tuning in, down 0.7 points on the last ratings period. Mix 94.5 and Nova 93.7 still go head-to-head during this time slot, with virtually nothing separating the two now that Nova continues to make gains. Mix 94.5 has fallen by a pretty substantial 2.2 points, while Nova 93.7 has climbed 0.8 points (it also grew its breakfast share in the last period by 3 points), meaning that they share audiences of 12.7% and 11.5% respectively.

Despite another drop (1 point this period, 0.5 points in the last), Nova continues to lead in Perth's drivetime battle with a 14.1% share. Mix 94.5 has also suffered a 1.4 points drop to 13.3%, despite increasing share in the last survey by 1.5 points.

Brisbane:

In the last survey, Brisbane’s Nova 106.9 was slipping backwards in most demographics but was managing to appeal to younger audiences. This time around, it regained some ground in the the 18-24 age bracket gaining 4.4 points, and taking a 24.5% audience share. It still sits behind Triple J which gains 0.9 points and has a 26.3% share of the age group.

Triple M faired the worst in this demo dropping 4.9 points to an 8% share.

Triple J, meanwhile is losing its grip on the 25-39 age bracket dropping 3.8 points o a 13.6% share of audience, but picking up listeners in older demos, gaining 1.8 points for listeners 40-54.

In all listeners, 10+ there were no major shifts this time around, with Triple M and SCA's Hit105.3 both dropping 1.1 points. Nova106.9 was the strongest marginally, gaining 0.8 points.

Hit105.3 saw a 6.9 point drop in younger listeners aged 10-17 the biggest dip of any station, in any demographic, meanwhile ARN's 97.3FM gained 5.2 points – the biggest audience gain in any demo.

Overall in total listeners, SCA's Hit105.3 retains the largest share of listeners over 10 with 14.3% of the audience.

In breakfast slot, the biggest gains were made by Nova106.9 which added 1.4 points to take third most listeners in the timeslot. The ABC dropped the most listeners falling 1.5 points to 13.7 – although till in the lead.

Adelaide - Mix 102.3 continues to lead market by tiny margin

ARN station Mix 102.3 continues to lead the way in Adelaide in terms of market share, but, as was the case in the last survey, only by a marginal lead.

Despite a 0.8 percentage point drop, Mix continues to command a 13.6% market share (compared to 13.9% in the last survey) across the whole listening audience. It also declined 1.8 points in the last period, maybe revealing that there could be a small, but steady, exodus away from the leading commercial station.

Mix is closely trailed by ABC 891 - the local AM broadcast of the ABC - which captures a 12.5% market share; no change on the last ratings survey, while Nova's 91.9FM has grown slightly – by 0.7 points to 12% overall. AM talk station FiveAA is also up 0.7 points to an overall share of 11.1%. Local Triple M station lost 1.3 points of its listenership in this ratings period, and now captures 8.4% of the total market.

ABC 891 leads breakfast by a substantial lead, hitting 18% of the overall market. Elsewhere, it is a very closely-fought battle between FiveAA and Mix 102.3, which enjoy a 13.7% and 13.5% share respectively. Both of those shows have seen audience growth since the last survey. However, Nova's 91.9FM is the biggest winner during Drive and has picked up a further 1% of listenership to lead with a market share of 15%. Mix 102.3 trails with 12.2%, a small increase of 3 points on the last period.
