Bevan Shields.
Bevan Shields has stepped aside as editor of The Sydney Morning Herald to be replaced by chief reporter Jordan Baker.
Shields said the job, which he held for four years, had been the honour of his life.
“The time has come for me to focus on my health and wellbeing, and to think about the next chapter in my career,” he told staff in an email.
Executive editor Luke McIlveen said Jordan will formally take up her new role early in the New Year.
“While Bevan takes an extended period of leave from the newsroom over summer, our excellent deputy editors, Nick Ralston and Liam Phelan, will support me in leading the newsroom through this transition period,” said McIlveen.
