The Media Store chief operating officer Jacquie Alley has won Gold in the Indie Legend category at the global Indie Awards, becoming the only Australian recipient this year.

The awards were announced in London overnight and recognise independent agencies worldwide. Alley previously received Bronze in the same category last year.

The Indie Legend award recognises leaders in the independent agency sector for industry impact, entrepreneurial performance and sustained client and employee relationships.

“I'm honoured to have won this global leadership award. I am a passionate advocate for the independent media agency sector,” Alley said.

“I want to see Australian indie agencies continue to flourish with award-winning cultures and innovative clients, who value honest and transparent ways of working, and appreciate the care factor and extra mile we put in to ensure their businesses continue to grow.

“To share a glimpse of that passion with the global indie community has been an absolute privilege.”

Alley has worked in Australia’s media industry for almost 30 years.

She joined The Media Store in 1997 as a receptionist, later becoming research and insights manager, before being appointed chief operating officer in 2018 and co-owner in 2020.

Working with chief executive Stephen Leeds, Alley has overseen the agency’s client growth and introduced initiatives including paid parental leave, profit sharing, gender pay equity measures and carbon neutral certification.

She is the first female chair of the Independent Media Agencies of Australia and has led initiatives including the Female Leaders of Tomorrow Programme, IMAA group deals, a DE&I council and an industry salary survey.

The Media Store has received multiple workplace awards, including Employer of the Year at the 2024 AdNews Agency of the Year Awards.
