IPG Mediabrands has appointed Dan Johns as chief operating officer of the group as Reg Davidson steps up to become regional CFO. Johns will have direct oversight group operations and new product development.

“As our business accelerates and new skill sets are created for clients, Dan will play a critical role in evolving Mediabrands’ competitive edges into the future,” says IMP Mediabrands CEO Danny Bass.

Johns, a former CEO of Ikon Communications, joined Mediabrands as group commercial director in May 2013. He has played a leadership role in many areas of the group’s operations, particularly as a mentor for social media agency Society and programmatic business Cadreon, which have grown to staff of 40 and 44 respectively.

Bass says Johns will continue to retain these responsibilities as well as drive collaboration across the group, which includes meda agencies UM and Initiative.

Two executives have been promoted to support Johns. Kerry Boys has been appointed strategic operations director after previously working in at UM Sydney. She will focus on new collaboration initiatives across Mediabrands.

Hugo Cutrone, also previously at UM, has been appointed business operations director at Mediabrands and will lead several multi-business product initiatives in development.
