Instagram rolls-out parent supervision tools for AI characters

By AdNews | 20 October 2025

Meta will launch new supervision tools for parents to control how their teens engage with AI characters.

The social media technology company rolled out changes to its teen accounts settings last week with a default 13+ (PG-13 rating) and limited content settings.

New updates give parents control to either block specific AI characters or turn off access to the one-on-one chats.

Meta’s AI assistant will remain available for information and educational opportunities under age-appropriate restrictions.

Insights into what their teens and AI characters are talking about will be available.

The parental supervision controls will first launch on Instagram early next year in Australia, US, UK and Canada.
