Fairfax has appointed Andrew Mudgway as its new Victorian agency sales director to build creative solutions for advertisers across the Fairfax portfolio.

Mudgway joins Fairfax from a role as MD of Initiative in Melbourne. He has several years experience in media, including roles at George Patterson, DDB Melbourne, OMD in Paris, Zenith Optimedia and Southern Cross Austereo.

In his new role Mudgway will report to Fairfax Media national agency sales director Chris Freel.

Freel said Mudgway's appointment is significant in a time of change for media companies.

"The media landscape is constantly changing and Andrew brings a great depth of experience with advertisers, agencies and publishers and is well equipped to navigate this change,” Freel said.

“As we build deeper, more strategic partnerships with agencies and advertisers, it is crucial to invest in the best people to execute this strategy.”

Mudgway said he believes Fairfax is “well positioned” for the future.

“Right now there is an extraordinary opportunity to bring together audiences and advertisers in ways that generate tangible and enduring value and Fairfax Media has the audience, technology, people and platforms to deliver on this,” Mudgway said.

Mudgway's appointment will be effective from July 2015.

Mudgway has been replaced by Stephen Fisher, promoted from within from the role of general manager of Melbourne operations.

AdNews understands the moves had been on the cards for some time, allowing Initiative to search for a capable replacement.
