Our Industry Insights Profile takes a weekly look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

This week we head to Sydney to speak to Spotify director of sales ANZ, Andrea Ingham.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Nine months.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does?

We offer the best music experience on the planet: available to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

In one sentence, what does your role involve?

Managing the needs of my team, clients and the Spotify business on the free, advertising tier.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

We continue to pave the way as the most popular music streaming service both in Australia and across the globe - and all this from a standing start out of a tiny living room in Sweden. We recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary globally and four years in Oz & growing every day.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

The people. They’re fun, smart, caring and outgoing.

Previous industry related (ad land/ad tech) companies you have worked at:

Nova Entertainment, Nine Entertainment Co and Southern Cross Austereo.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

I’m not a career planner but I’m feeling old this week so maybe retirement.

What is the elephant in the room? The thing that no one is talking about – but they should be?

Is the agency commercial model right? I see people I care about working exceptionally long hours, under immense pressure - it doesn’t look healthy or sustainable.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I was in a commercial for Sensodyne.

Top networking tip?

Be yourself.

My favourite restaurant for a business lunch is:

Toko.

My favourite advert is:

Cadbury’s Gorilla, 2007. That In The Air Tonight drum solo is one of the greatest moments in advertising. Period. Locally I think the Australia Day Lamb ads are great.

My must-have gadget is:

My iPhone.

My favourite media is:

Netflix. Netflix and I are having a bit of a love affair at the moment. I hadn’t watched much of their content before they hit Australia so we’re in an exclusive relationship at the moment.

My favourite TV show is:

Suits. Harvey is hot. Oh and great scripting...

The last book I read:

Memoirs of a Geisha (late to the party I know).

My mantra / philosophy is:

Just do it and if in doubt throw it out. I hate clutter

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:

A friend was working at Clemenger Adelaide and it sounded like fun.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

A pole dancer.

In five years' time I'll be:

Retired. Holidays in Mykonos and drinking plenty of vino.

Define your job in one word

OMGTISAFGT

What's your poison:

Champagne and laughter.
