Rebecca Turner: managing partner at The Core Agency

Time in current role/time at the company:
One month in the role. First stint was two years and my current tenure is seven years.

How would you describe what the company does?
Help brands punch above.

What do you do day-to-day?
Organise things, solve problems, exude calm.

Define your job in one word:
Instigator.

I got into the media industry because:
When I was doing my degree, my lecturer told me ‘You’re an agency person’. I think it was a compliment?

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Time.

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
Making the industry attractive to a more diverse next generation.

What are you most excited about in the next 12 months?
Working on more things that drive profit for purpose. Seeing my team punch above their goals.

Who has been a great mentor to you and why?
My parents are still my best mentors – Mum has the most generous heart and Dad always does the right thing over the easy thing.

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
Work harder than anyone else.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
Doing something that uses creativity to help people.

My mantra is:
Real queens fix each others’ crowns.

My favourite advert is:
That’s tough. I’d have to say Dove’s early Real Beauty work with the sketch artist. A powerful idea which spoke to me as a young woman and really changed how I thought about body image.

Music and TV streaming habits: what do you subscribe to?
Music-wise I love anything from electronic to grime to jazz. For TV, I’ve just finished watching Euphoria and Top Boy. Fave podcasts would be NoFilter, Professional Troublemaker and BeautyIQ.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
They know everything, I’m an open book!

In five years' time I'll be:
Helping make ideas happen, but for a new set of problems.
