Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to QMS Media GM – City of Sydney, Jemma Enright.

Time in current role/time at the company:
Three months.

How would you describe what the company does?
We help brands become memorable through the power of quality, high-impact, digital out of home advertising.

What do you do day-to-day?
I am leading the all-new City of Sydney street furniture advertising offer so on any day I am working on packaging, pricing, proposition development and consulting with key stakeholders and clients.

Define your job in one word:
Energising.

I got into marketing because:
I am crazily curious about how people think, feel and act, and marketing is one of the best industries to explore quirky human stuff.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Managing the enthusiasm and expectations of the sales team and clients while the massive program of rolling out the City of Sydney network goes on. It’s a big project!

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
Trust and transparency. As an industry we need to continue to set high standards for ourselves, deliver what we promise and transact with high levels of integrity.

Notable campaigns you have worked on:
I’ve worked in the startup sector for the past nine years and have had the good fortune to work at the absolute inception of new brands. Of note was leading the development of the brand and app design for 86 400, a smart digital bank, now owned by NAB.

Who has been a great mentor to you and why?
Fleur Brown. I have had the pleasure of engaging with Fleur many times through my career, especially in the tech startup sector. Her passion for women’s advancement, startup innovation and big audacious challenges is unrivalled.

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
Stay curious, don’t be afraid to constructively challenge ideas and ways of working and always look to be involved in big, game-changing initiatives. You will learn faster!

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
Writing a book of short stories about people who like to be the last out of intense situations.

My mantra is:
“Share your ideas without fear”. Never fear that someone will judge you or steal your idea. Ideas are easy. Execution is hard.

My favourite advert is:
Has to be Macca’s and Menulog's partnership ad featuring Snoop Dogg. Love it!

Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?
Everything!

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I love plants… and sometimes like to have a chat.

In five years' time I'll be:
Grown up.
