Our Industry Profile takes a weekly look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

This week we head to North Sydney to meet Jo Jones, performance director at MediaCom.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does?
MediaCom is the “The Content + Connections Agency”, working on behalf of its clients to leverage their brands’ entire system of communications across paid, owned and earned channels to step change their business outcomes.

In one sentence, what does your role involve?
I lead performance strategies via my expert team for a range of clients.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?
We have repositioned ourselves as The Content + Connections Agency to deliver a connected communications system for our clients by developing and optimising all content as the fuel that drives high-performing systems.

Best thing about the industry you work in:
It’s young, energetic and dynamic

Previous industry related (ad land/ad tech) companies you have worked at:
I spent most of my previous life in the UK working for DigitasLBi, Bigmouthmedia, Stream:20

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?
Probably still working in performance although I think it will be a totally different industry to what it is now. The landscape has changed so much over the past three years. There will be a mass of new technologies that we’ll be using within each of the different mediums. Social and mobile are the channels that are really going to explode as more markets are able to access the internet and interact socially.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I have a photographic memory; hence why I always remember random/useless pieces of information.

Top networking tip:
Work it baby! Make the effort to talk to people that you have never spoken to before.

My favourite restaurant for a business lunch is:
Kingsley’s Steak House. Steak and wine in the sun. What more could a girl ask for?

My favourite advert is:
The Cadburys Gorilla advert! I can’t help but think of that Gorilla every time I hear that Phil Collins song.

My must-have gadget is:
I hate to say it but I cannot live without my iPhone

My favourite media is:
I would have to say affiliates! It’s such an exciting time to be in Australia, the affiliate channel has been around for a while here but I think it’s growing at a phenomenon rate. Exciting times.

My favourite TV show is:
Game of thrones

The last book I read:
Sacrifice by Paul Finch. I’m obsessed.

My mantra / philosophy is:
Life is too short! Live it!

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:
Purely on accident. I applied for an offline marketing role for an insurance company. I didn’t get that role but they offered me an online marketing role instead. I had no idea what it was but decided to take it anyway and here I am today. It was one of the best things to happen to me.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
A luxury travel blogger.

In five years' time I'll be:
Happy and healthy.

Define your job in one word:
Awesome

What's your poison:
A nice cold glass of Sauv Blanc
