Hotwire Australia pushes gender diversity in tech

Global communications agency Hotwire has reiterated its commitment to driving diversity in tech, announcing it will offer free media training for women in 2019.

The initiative was developed in response to the need for greater diversity, particularly gender diversity in the Australian technology sector to drive innovative thinking and stronger bottom line financial results.

Hotwire aims to enable more businesses to give their female leaders a platform to become more renowned role models in their sector.

According to EY FinTech Australia census 2018, 19% of the fintech founders are women with 28% female participation among fintech firms.

Hotwire Australia held its first ‘F in Fintech’ event last month to shine a spotlight on the unconscious bias across the industry. Inspired by the lively panel discussions about the need to drive gender equality with innovative thinking, the team identified how it could make this a reality in the industry by enhancing opportunities for women in local tech leadership roles.

“We work with a range of technology and innovation-driven companies and our clients often seek our help to attract a more diverse workforce comprising more female role models,” said Hotwire Australia managing director Mylan Vu.

“For many tech companies, providing speaker and media opportunities to publicise spokespeople starts with media training, and this is where we are invested in making a difference at a grassroots level."

Retainer clients of Hotwire Australia will be offered up to four media training sessions per year for up to three female spokespeople per session at no charge in 2019.

“The most common channels through which role models become known and share their influence are speaking panels at conferences and events, and interviews in mainstream media. By providing free media training for female spokespeople, we can provide them with an increased volume of opportunities to have their voices heard,” added Vu.

With more media trained women in the tech industry, Hotwire anticipates seeing more women featured in mainstream and social media, creating more visibility and greater opportunities for female tech leaders for current and future tech generations.
