Australian healthcare specialist creative agency Bastion Brands has appointed Pete Smith as its head of art.

Smith brings more than 20 years’ healthcare advertising experience to the agency.

He began his healthcare advertising career at Curtis, Jones and Brown as an art director, and went on to lead the agency creatively before heading overseas.

Smith recently returned home after seven years in China as the regional ECD at Ogilvy Health.

“I’m incredibly excited about joining Bastion Brands and to help bolster its already formidable creative reputation,” says Smith.

“Independent, agile, creative and specialised agencies are the best place to be.”

Smith will join Bastion Brands creative director Bruce Williams to help drive the agency’s creative offering.

“I’m delighted to have a person as passionate and hard-working as Pete as part of the Bastion Brands creative team," says Williams.

"Pete will help reinforce our capability in digital, design and overall art-direction. Pete's years of experience leading award-winning creative divisions in China also now gives us a wealth of experience as we extend our client base regionally.”

Smith marks Bastion Brands' eighth new hire in the past three months.

“His skillset and experience is a perfect addition to the evolution of our creative firepower as we increasingly deliver more creative, complex digital solutions to clients,” says Bastion Brands founder and CEO Simon Davies.
