Harper's to split cover after Top Model disaster

Harpers Bazaar November issue.

Harper's Bazaar is to publish two front covers featuring the winner and the runner-up of Australia's Next Top Model after host Sarah Murdoch named the wrong winner.

Kelsey Martinovich was named the winner of the competition during the live finale on Fox8, but minutes later, Murdoch revealed that she had been given the incorrect details, and the actual winner was Amanda Ware.

Harper's Bazaar editor Edwina McCann confirmed to AdNews that the November magazine covers would be split, giving each girl a run. Additionally, a six-page editoral feature will now include images of both girls, rather than just the winner.

She said: "We have decided to go 50/50 and bundle them together so hopefully retailers will get the same quantity," said McCann. "Subscribers will get a lucky dip and will try and get some kind of dual promotional poster out to the retailers."

However, McCann said it was unlikely the gaffe would lead to the magazine ending its partnership with the show, saying ACP would wait "untill the dust had settled" before making any firm decisions. "Obviously we want to see what happens," McCann said.

A cover feature and six-page editorial shoot in the ACP Magazines-owned glossy women's fashion title was part of the prize for the winning contestant.

Australia's Next Top Model broadcaster Foxtel has agreed to award Martinovich $25,000 and a trip to New York as compensation for the mistake.
