Rebecca Costello is standing down as managing director of Guardian Australia.
She joined the news title in November 2023 from independent publisher Schwartz Media where she was CEO.
“We have navigated a period of enormous change together: strengthening the business, sharpening our strategy, building new capability and deepening our relationships with audiences and partners,” she said.
“I’ve spent much of my career in journalism because I believe deeply in its value. Quality, independent journalism matters.
"It holds power to account, helps us understand the world around us and plays an essential role in a healthy democracy. It has been a privilege to lead the Australian business of an organisation built around that purpose.
“As for what comes next: after more than 25 years building and leading media businesses, I’m going to give myself something I haven’t had much of: some time to think about what I want the next part of my working life to look like.”
