Industry executive Geraint Davies has joined esports and entertainment media network GAMURS Group as chief operating officer.

Davies has more than three decades of experience in media, recently working as chief operating officer at iHeartRadio in Australia. He has also worked at ARN, Southern Cross Austereo, Horizon Media and APN Outdoor in the same role.

In the newly created role at GAMURS Group, Davies will manage the operations of GAMURS, crafting and leading the strategic direction of the company.

“The GAMURS Group is at a pivotal stage of growth and it is the perfect time to bring on someone with Geraints’ experience,” says GAMURS CEO Riad Chikhani.

“His background in media of all genres - including cinema, outdoor, and audio - spans an impressive 30 plus years. I am excited to welcome Geraint who brings a level of execution that can build on what we do well, expand on it and take it to the next level.”

GAMURS, which has its headquarters in Sydney, was founded in 2014 by Chikhani.

“We have quickly moved from a small media offering to a multi-mast head operator, with a reach that has grown from serving nine million readers to over 40 million in under two years,” Chikhani says.

“We are growing at a rapid rate and gaining Geraint will in turn help with our expansion, but also with our existing staff, giving them an opportunity to grow with the business, which is what is most exciting to me.”

Davies makes his transition from audio to gaming as the sector experiences significant growth, particularly during the last two years. A new Accenture report estimated that the gaming industry generated more than $412 billion in revenue last year, eclipsing television and music with esports now a billion-dollar industry.

“I am delighted to join GAMURS Group at such an exciting time in its development,” Davies says.

“The lines between computer games, movies, sports and entertainment are rapidly merging. With a powerhouse of online brands in each of these sectors, the group is ideally positioned to continue its fast profit growth and global audience reach.”
