Former chief investment officer at GroupM's China operations, Di Fei, has reportedly been given a life sentence for allegedly taking millions of dollars in bribes from firms to place ad spend with them.
Di and colleagues are reported to have received kickbacks totalling 1.2 billion yuan, about $US176 million, between 2019 and 2023.
Bloomberg reported two of Di’s former colleagues were also sentenced. Yao Lan was jailed 14.5 years Hong Xin four years.
The scheme involved broker firms that aggregated budgets from clients to win rebates from media owners, a part of which went to accounts linked to the accused.
