Five by Five Global to uncover gaming insights at Unfiltered event

Independent agency Five by Five Global will uncover insights into the world of video games at its Gaming Unfiltered event in Sydney next week.

As part of the agency’s Unfiltered series, the free in-person event will reveal the opportunity for brand marketers to deep dive into gaming culture.

The event panel is made up of former Red Bull executive Chris Breen, PlaySide Studios global head of marketing, Michael McAllister and SXSW Sydney’s head of games, Luke Lancaster. 

Guiding the conversation is Five by Five strategist and former competitive gamer Stacia Grooby, who will highlight the untapped potential that emerges when brands genuinely connect with gamers.

Grooby said gaming audiences are passionate communities and if brands understand their place in their world, the opportunities are massive. 

“With 81% of all Australians now playing video games* marketers are hungry to learn more about it from industry experts. Gaming Unfiltered is designed to give attendees an opportunity to dive into the world of gaming, have candid discussions with experts and ask their burning questions around budgets, streaming, influencer activity, esports and more," she said.

“I’m looking forward to us unearthing some real gems from the panel about a category that’s both lauded and misunderstood. We’ll make everyone feel welcome regardless of their level of games industry knowledge. It’s a learning opportunity.”

Topics to be covered comprise Lancaster sharing insights into video game marketing successes and failures from his SXSW and former PAX experience; Michael McAllister showcasing real-life results from an Australian indie-publisher’s international breakthrough into gaming and his approach to brand partnerships; and Chris Breen unveiling tips to target esports audiences, sharing his Red Bull experience and industry trends he’s been mapping in his new role.

Lancaster said it's no secret that gaming is big and it’s here to stay.

"This event offers a unique opportunity to peel back the layers of game marketing and explore how brands can authentically connect with passionate gaming communities - and trust me, they’re passionate," said Lancaster.

Gaming Unfiltered marks the third event in the Unfiltered series and will take place in Surry Hills on Tuesday September 5 from 4pm to 6pm. Numbers are strictly limited to 40 attendees, and this event will not be recorded - it’s officially 'off-the-record' to promote a safe environment for a more open and honest conversation where guests can feel comfortable asking the “dumb” questions.
