Fiona Johnston, dentsu’s chief executive officer, client, media and commercial, is departing the business following a restructure that has seen her role made redundant, AdNews can reveal.
The change is part of dentsu ANZ’s move to streamline operations by cutting layers of management and simplifying its media leadership structure across Australia.
Rob Harvey, CEO of dentsu ANZ, will step in to oversee the media practice across Australia and Aotearoa during the transition.
“Our goal is to create a simpler and more competitive business,” Harvey said.
“For us to move faster, with greater clarity and with more agility, we need to first remove duplication and complexity from our operating model.”
Johnston, who leaves the business on Friday, October 17, has been with dentsu since 2022 and played a key role in building out the media team nationally.
Her remit included new business growth, client retention and leading commercial strategy across the media division.
“I’d like to thank Fi for her contribution and commitment,” Harvey said.
“She has played an important role in shaping our Media business, including securing new clients, fostering growth with existing partners and building a connected leadership team across all our Australian offices. We wish her every success in the future.
“I appreciate there’s been some big changes to our business lately.
"We are seeing this as an opportunity to realign our model and ensure it best supports our strategic capabilities and strategy.
“We are fortunate to have a strong leadership team across Australia and Aotearoa, and these changes signal the beginning of the next chapter for dentsu ANZ, one built on simplicity, connection and clarity.”
The role of practice president, media has also been removed as part of the restructure.
Harvey, who has more than 25 years’ experience in media and strategy, will oversee the media practice in the interim.
