Minister for Communications and the Arts, Mitch Fifield, has highlighted licence fee arrangements and media ownership as key areas on the government's agenda, as it seeks to respond to the "enormous disruption" the broadcast industry is facing.

Fifield conveyed his message as part of a video announcement to kick off the 2015 National Radio Conference. Along with mentioning key areas for review, he said he would not expect unanimity among media owners before committing to any change.

"While the industry can continue to grow and succeed through the delivery of innovative services and compelling content, government also has a role to play," Fifield said.

"The Australian overnment recognises that the broadcasting industry is subject to areas of regulation in need of updating, and that changes are needed to allow broadcasters to adapt and thrive now, and into the future.

"While it will be important to achieve a level of broad consensus among stakeholders before proceeding with any changes, unanimity across the industry may be difficult to achieve given the commercial realities."
