SYDNEY: Pay TV operator Fetch TV has soft launched into Australian homes, with its 20 channel offering going head-to-head against Telstra's T-Box which was officially launched last night. Fetch TV offers 13 more channels than Telstra - 5 of which are video on demand and internet applications including Twitter and Facebook -  but chief executive Scott Lorson said yesterday that the number of channels would increase as he signs up more content providers.
Fetch TV has been guarded on how its advertising model will work, and the media buyers and planners contacted by AdNews were yet to be approached by the fledgeling broadcaster.
The Fetch TV set-top box contains a one terabyte hard drive, more memory than Telstra's T-box, the Foxtel IQ or MyStar HD, and is available to iiNet subscribers free of excess download charges. Fetch TV is backed by Malaysia'a All Astro Networks, which has a 40% stake in the start-up.
