Newly formed WPP agency Wunderman Thompson has been appointed as the creative agency on the Duracell global account, following a competitive pitch.

Understood to have been undertaken over a four-month pitch process, the agency will handle the majority of the brand's international markets, excluding North America, where Wieden + Kennedy currently holds the account.

"Wunderman Thompson delivered strategic creative work grounded in technology executed with big platform vision. They provided a strong understanding of the global markets and the strategic clarity of how we can take our international brand into the future," Duracell CMO Tatiana Vivienne Jouanneau says.

"Wunderman Thompson was outstanding in their pitch, they were joyful and we immediately felt the chemistry was right."

The agency which made global headlines this year following the merger of J.Walter Thompson and Wunderman will begin work on the account immediately.

AdNews is awaiting a statement from WPP on how this will impact the Australian account.
