Dog of the Month: Poppy and Theo from Third Avenue

Poppy and Theo.

Dog of the Month is presented by Fur Media. We look at our furry friends across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector, shedding a light on these stars and how they help adland get results. This time we speak to Poppy, Chief Canine Officer and Theo, Chief Happiness Officer, Third Avenue Group.

How would you describe what the company does? They seem to say the words ‘Public Relations’ and ‘bloody journos’ a lot, whatever that means. We’re pretty sure it involves convincing humans to talk to other humans, but we just wish it involved a bit less talking to their computers all day and a lot more treats.

What do you do day-to-day? Most importantly, it’s crucial we get at least four hours of sleep under our humans’ desks per day. Theo takes care of barking at any delivery drivers, who seem to visit our Managing Director, Julie, at an alarming frequency, while Poppy uses her well-rested energy to act as the canine alarm clock for the end of the business day, so she can go on walks with Rochelle.

Define your job in one word? Exhausting.

I got into digital marketing because? Because we are cute, obviously, and really have no idea what ‘digital marketing’ even means. Does it mean treats?

Where do you turn for inspiration? We can’t go past a frolic in the ocean or the nearby lagoons. And when we hear that BBQ chicken pack open, we are all ears.

Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day? We have a simple organisational structure: dogs at the top, humans beneath. Rochelle supports Poppy’s leadership agenda, and Julie runs all operations for Theo.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future? We are sure any day now we will get the call-up from Dulux. Let’s be honest,  the Sheepdog has had a long run. It’s time for an upgrade - and Cavoodles are Australia’s most popular dog breed, just sayin’. Poppy’s likeness is already on a dog food brand, but she aspires for Third Avenue to win a pet food client, pronto.

My favourite advert is? We don’t know if you’ve heard, but dogs go whacko for Schmackos.

My best trick is? Manipulation

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you? Poppy occasionally fakes being asleep to avoid doing Google Meet “appearances” and Theo secretly believes he’s the actual Managing Director.
