The CEO-designate of Qantas, Vanessa Hudson, who will in November replace Alan Joyce, has announced major changes to an expanded leadership team at the national airline and more focus on digital to build relationships with customers.
Marketing doesn't make an appearance in the group management committee, whose membership has been expanded to 13 from 11.
Chief customer officer Markus Svensson has been appointed CEO of Qantas Domestic following the retirement of Andrew David in September.
Catriona Larritt, executive manager of Qantas Freight, becomes chief customer and digital officer, adding responsibility for technology to the job, reflecting what Qantas says is the role of digital in improving customer experience.
Petra Perry was appointed Qantas CMO in March 2022 but isn't listed as a member of the group management committee. Jo Boundy left Qantas in 2021 to become the CMO at the Commonwealth Bank.
Hudson says the changes announced today are about increasing focus on a few key areas as Qantas moves from recovery to growth.
“Investing in digital is a huge part of our plans to keep improving customer experience," she says.
"Through the website and app, we can put a lot of power in people’s hands to control their journey and access real time information. That’s why we are adding responsibility for Technology to the chief customer officer’s portfolio.
“The success of our recovery plans means we’re in a strong position, and that will only stay true if we get the balance right for our customers, people and shareholders in the years ahead."
