Destination Byron is seeking a creative, branding or marketing agency to develop the brand for Byron Fest, a winter festival planned for 2027 to showcase Byron Bay's arts, culture, food, wellness, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
Destination Byron, an industry-led volunteer organisation, secured funding through the NSW Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner and Night-Time Economy initiatives to establish the event.
Byron Shire has no dedicated destination marketing budget of its own, and project funding for the brand work is limited; agencies willing to contribute part of their services on a pro bono or reduced-fee basis are encouraged to apply.
"This is an opportunity to help create something enduring for one of Australia's most recognised destinations," a Destination Byron spokesperson said.
"We know the budget won't attract a traditional commercial pitch process. Instead, we're looking for an agency that sees value in contributing to a project with genuine community impact, strong tourism potential and significant opportunities for creative recognition."
Byron Shire has a population of about 35,000 and receives two million visitors a year, but council funding does not extend to destination marketing, the spokesperson said.
Byron Fest is intended to give tourism a "positive, regenerative impact" on the local community.
The selected agency will work with the organisation and the festival's event team to develop a festival logo, brand positioning, creative platform, social media assets and an industry toolkit to promote the event through members' own channels.
Byron Fest is planned as a multi-week winter event across five pillars: arts and culture, food and beverage, sustainability, wellness and entrepreneurship.
Destination Byron is interested in agencies with experience in destination marketing, tourism, events, cultural festivals, place branding or purpose-driven projects, and is open to partnerships combining agency expertise with emerging creative talent.
Shortlisted agencies will be invited to a formal proposal stage and EOIs should include an agency overview, relevant experience, team structure, examples of similar work and a brief outline of the proposed strategic approach.
