Dentsu has moved to put more structure behind its business outside the Japan home market.

Giulio Malegori, the head of EMEA, has been appointed group chief operating officer, Dentsu Group Inc, to lead the advertising company's community of regional CEOs.

His brief is to oversee global client growth, optimise the one dentsu client growth strategy, streamline effectiveness in business operations, and enable regional and market-based client management teams to deliver exceptional value.

He will also oversee business operations and IT.

Dentsu’s business outside Japan has been without a senior leader, one based outside the home market, since the departure last year of Wendy Clark, the CEO of dentsu International since 2020.

The company replaced the two tier system, Japan and the rest of the world, with "One Management Team".

This effectively joined the domestic Japan network business and the international division.

Dentsu has now made two new appointments within its group management team aimed at “accelerating growth and driving its transformation to an agile, client-centric organisation”.

President and CEO Hiroshi Igarashi: “The new appointments draw upon two of dentsu’s most experienced leaders to simplify the business while putting innovation at the heart of everything dentsu delivers for clients, stimulating their top line growth and supporting transformation objectives.”

The second appointment is Jean Lin, the chief culture officer, who becomes group president - global practices, Dentsu Group Inc.

Her job is to draw upon her multi-disciplinary industry experience to “build the core capabilities and long-term competitiveness” of dentsu.

“To be a true partner for growth to our clients, we must simplify and focus our efforts, creating teams which can consult, ideate and move quickly to deliver valuable transformation at scale,” said Hiroshi Igarashi.

“With these appointments, we are building a structure which will nurture and connect our deep areas of expertise, integrate our service offerings while proudly celebrating our individual network brands, and infuse diverse creativity on a global scale like we have never seen before at dentsu.

“I give my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Giulio and Jean as they continue their work, alongside our global leadership teams, to take dentsu to the forefront of people-centred transformations which shape society.”
