The Piano key.
Brand activation agency Curious Nation has brought ABC’s series The Piano to life, turning Sydney’s Circular Quay into Circular Keys.
The Piano, hosted by Amanda Keller and featuring Harry Connick Jr and concert pianist Andrea Lam, invites talented amateur pianists from all walks of life to perform in bustling public spaces, unaware they are being secretly observed by the two musical greats.
Tasked by the ABC to drive awareness for The Piano and activate audiences through word-of-mouth and social content, Curious Nation delivered an interactive, talent-led performance.
At the heart of the activation was a giant, 15m custom-built interactive piano that lit up with every step as it was played with feet, rather than fingers, encouraging people of all ages to unleash their inner pianist and share in the delight of spontaneous musical expression.
Throughout the day, dancers performed crowd-pleasing renditions of Clocks by Coldplay and Baby Shark, while a surprise performance from The Piano’s mentor Andrea Lam added star power with a unique delivery of some classical pieces.
“The Piano is a celebration of untapped talent, community and the transformative power of music,” said Stephanie Babin, managing partner at Curious Nation.
“Our goal was to bring that spirit to life in a way that felt both joyful and unifying. Circular Quay gave us the perfect stage, where the public became the performers, and the amazing content was amplified across social media.”
