Industry figures are leading the way in getting vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them announcing the occasion of double vax via social media. AdNews asked them about their motivation and experiences.

Sian Whitnall, Chief Digital Officer – OMD Australia:

On the wall of my kitchen hangs the photo calendar that my Mum sends us every Christmas, reminding us of all the family fun we have had together over the last year. If I’m being honest, I find the 2021 version a little depressing. It’s still full of cute family photos, but all taken from the isolation pockets we find ourselves in around the world. Photos of the niece I have never met, my own kids who have never met their aunts and of course the star of the show, our lockdown Labrador puppy ‘Buddy’ who is yet to assault any of my family with his affections.

For me, the vaccine signals hope. Hope that from next week when I get my second AZ dose that the 2021 calendar will be the only one of its kind. As we look forward to next year, we can start planning for the long awaited introductions and reunited celebrations.

It took more courage than I wish to admit to roll up my sleeve for AZ, because the nature of this digital pandemic has caused many of us to experience the side effect of information paralysis. This has made it hard to feel like you are making an informed, verified decision, amongst the overload of opinions and misinformation. But I’m so glad that I did, and with every day I cross off the calendar towards my next dose next week, I feel like we are getting one day closer to all getting back together again.
