Industry figures are leading the way in getting vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them announcing the occasion of double vax via social media. AdNews asked them about their motivation and experiences.

Dan Beaumont, Managing Partner, The Royals:

I've been double vaxxed for a month now (fortunately, booked in with my wife prior to this latest outbreak), so we feel confident that we're protected, should we be exposed to COVID. Neither of us experienced any side effects, so I strongly recommend getting jabbed as quickly as possible. It's a free insurance policy.

There are few things more important right now than getting us out of lockdown, schools open and business firing, as the consequences of the lockdown are starting to outweigh the benefits. Of course, health and safety is a top priority, but we can't expect law and order to be able to keep everyone safe all the time. No one wants a world like that.

So the sooner we can achieve a 70%+ vaccination rate, the risk of overloading the healthcare system is greatly reduced and the government will relax restrictions. While vaccination supply issues held us back for a while, we are thankfully in a better position now. Getting vaccinated is a matter of simply taking personal responsibility for your wellbeing, much like wearing a seatbelt in a car or a helmet on a bike.

We need to aim for a time when the number of cases in the community is irrelevant, the fatality rate is insignificant and home schooling is a distant memory. Hopefully I'll see you at The Shakey for a beer before Christmas.
