Strategic and creative independent agency Colony Group has acquired Type + Pixel, adding 10 staff and expanding its AI and digital brand experience offer.

The deal takes Colony’s headcount to 120 and brings Type + Pixel founder Darren Walls into the group as managing partner.

Walls will continue to service existing clients while leading AI and brand innovation across the business.

Type + Pixel joins Creative Outpost, Orange Digital and Colony Agency within the group’s integrated model spanning strategy, creative, digital, social, media and production.

Colony Group chief executive Matt McCarthy said the acquisition strengthens the agency’s technology capability.

“This acquisition marks a major leap forward, turbocharging Colony Agency’s AI capabilities and empowering us to redefine what’s possible at the intersection of creativity and technology,” McCarthy said.

Walls said the move follows a decade building the agency.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for Type + Pixel,” Walls said.

“We’ve built an award-winning agency brand over the last ten years, and we’re looking forward to bringing our blend of brand thinking & digital innovation to the Colony Group as it grows its national footprint.”

Sarah Deery has been appointed general manager at Type + Pixel, in addition to her role at Creative Outpost.

Colony said the acquisition positions the group to support brands in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic Games.
