M&C Saatchi has won a Warc Grand Prix for Innovation, for its Optus Clever Buoy project.

For those who have been living under a rock, Clever Buoy, a collaboration with Google and tech company Shark Mitigation Services, is a system that detects sharks and then alerts those on the beach that they're nearby, highlighting the power of the Optus network.

Warc's awards program is in its third year, and rewards innovative thinking which delivers tangible results

The project beat a record 98 entries, and 28 shortlisted entries, from across the globe. It also won a gold product or service innovation award for best use of media.

It's not the first round of accolades M&C have received for Clever Buoy, taking home the Grand Prix for Innovation at Spikes Asia, Most Innovative Use of Digital at LIA and the IAB Mixx Awards Special Gold Innovation gong.

M&C Saatchi's Clever Buoy team are currently working on a commercially viable version of the product next year, and are looking to further test the product on one of Australia's iconic beaches.
