Creative agency Emotive has appointed Dan Mortensen as head of design and Sam Jones as junior designer.

Mortensen joins Emotive from Clemenger BBDO where he led the design team for nearly seven years.

“Design is fundamental to everything we do and elevating our offering in that area was a must," Emotive managing partner and head of strategy Michael Hogg says.

"In Dan, we found the right person. Along with exceptional design skills across the board, he’s a creative champion, a natural leader and one of the most enthusiastic blokes you’ll ever meet. He’s also Kiwi, but you can’t have everything.”

Mortensen’s arrival coincides with junior designer Sam Jones and is hot on the heels of James Pash returning to Australia to join Emotive as creative director from Rothco in Dublin.

“If you’d asked me at the start of the year what my dream job was, I would have said to join Emotive," Mortensen says.

"Their creative culture, creative ambition and the opportunity to help take the work to the next level were all a huge pulls for me. Working alongside Simon and Michael has already made me excited about getting stuck in. And the beach house location might have had something to do with it too.”

Emotive CEO and founder Simon Joyce says Mortensen's appointment reflects a key step in the agency's evolution.

“He’s got an amazing track record not just in creative and design, but in building teams and culture. He’s a ripping bloke and we are thrilled to have him," Joyce says.

"With Sam’s appointment I’m equally excited. It’s fantastic to see more skilled and ambitious junior talent arriving at the agency, and we can’t wait to watch her career develop.”

Both Mortensen and Jones have commenced and will be based out of the Emotive Beach House in Tamarama.
