Brother & Co to close shop, exit government panel

Independent creative agency Brother & Co is winding down the Brisbane-based business to a close, removing one of the 40 agencies on the Queensland Government Advertising and Communications Panel.

The agency will no longer take on new campaign or brand projects.

Founded by brothers-in-law Piet Human and Kurt Viertel, Brother & Co has had a nearly 15-year journey.

“Through Brother, we took a brave step to back ourselves and it’s been a truly rewarding journey," said co-founder Piet Human.

"But after nearly 15 years, and many more in the industry, it’s simply time for something else. We’re grateful for the trust our clients placed in us, the work we created together, and the talented people who have been part of Brother over the years.”

Longstanding partnerships include Central Queensland University, eight years with Poolwerx, and seven years with Sure Insurance.

Piet and Kurt extend their sincere thanks to clients, supplier partners, collaborators, friends, past and present staff for their passionate support over the Brother & Co years.

“I leave an industry very different from the one I joined when I arrived at Leo Burnett Brisbane more than 30 years ago," said co-founder Viertel.

"I’m immensely appreciative of the global opportunities it’s afforded me, and the enduring relationships it has forged.

"Closing a business is a lot less fun than starting one from a garage, but we’ve always had a strong balance sheet and our staff, suppliers and even the ATO are paid up with no debts outstanding."
