Liquor Clearance Centre (Booze Mate) in Mentone, Victoria, has breached the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code Scheme (ABAC) for its window signage.

The shop front featured two signs one saying: "Sorry!! We are too drunk to open... see you later". And the second saying: “Sober is boring!!”

The complaint submitted to ABAC said: "The marketing promotes excessive consumption, misuse and abuse of alcohol."

As a result, the ABAC found both window signs to breach standards "by encouraging drinking until intoxicated and suggesting that alcohol consumption may cause a change in mood and lead to social success".

The company accepted the breach and has covered over or removed the signs.
