BNM's online channel surfs the wave to break onto One

Brand New Media's (BNM) online TV surfing channel mysurf.tv is heading to the mainstream, getting a 12-part half-hour series on Network 10 digital channel, One.

The first episode will be aired on the channel this Sunday at 4pm and will be hosted by Joel Hurrey of Domestic Blitz fame and pro-junior surfer Ellie-Jean Coffey, and feature surfing stars such as Mick Fanning.

The program is an extension of BNM's IPTV branded content surfing channel, which was created in December last year in partnership with Surfing Australia as the peak body sought to promote surfing in Australia.

While the online channel showed how brands can leverage from premium video content to develop new revenue streams, BNM Australia and New Zealand's managing director Simon Joyce said the TV showing was a whole new ball game.

“The launch of mysurf.tv on One takes this to the next level and demonstrates the commercial possibilities when an enterprise is committed to creating exceptional proprietary content,” Joyce said.

Surfing Australia's CEO Andrew Stark was suitably pleased with the announcement, saying that the One show would allow its message to reach a broader audience.

The surf channel is part of a wider set of lifestyle products being offered by BNM, as it sets out to build its own multichannel network featuring branded video content.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of ex-Fairfax journalist Lisa Hudson joining the team as the head of lifestyle channels last month, leading BNM's charge in offering a series of IPTV offerings centred around food and lifestyle.
