Employee preferences for WFH means workplaces need to utilise office spaces as a tool to connect with staff. In Better Workplaces, AdNews looks at how agencies use office design to entice staff to come in and create a company culture worth staying for.
Social Media platform Pinterest has opened a new office on the 47th floor of 2 Park Street.
The office can host up to 150 employees, with the local business offering a two-day per week in-office work model.

Pinterest’s global director of workplace planning, design and construction Kathy Aberin, told AdNews that the office design concept was inspired by Dorothea Mackellar.
“We wanted to celebrate all the natural attributes of Australia - of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains,” she said.
“The office takes you on a journey that meanders through colours and textures and climates that this unique country offers."
The office is divided into four different parts of Australian culture: 'Where the forest meets the sea', 'Sun, surf and sand', 'The Outback' and 'Adventures at the end of the world.'
The space includes 6 meeting rooms, 4 focus rooms and a team room.

‘The Pav’ barista bar is a beach surf café inspired by the Bondi Beach pavilion. The boardroom, dubbed ‘The Lighthouse’ is inspired by Byron Bay.
The Red Center is an immersive workspace at the heart of the office, inspired by the Australian outback with a range of red hues and rock displays.
The space features a carpet created by Indigenous textile artist Helena Geiger, as well as a custom lighting installation inspired by the ‘Field of Lights’ near Uluru.

A reimagined living quarter was inspired by Coober Pedy and offers a unique take on a meeting room, including a karaoke machine.
The Servery and multi purpose room’s wall panelling is designed by Indigenous artist Jean Baptiste Apuatimi.
Wall sconces by Australian designer Christopher Boots reference the texture of salt found along the lakes.

“After the pandemic, we recognised the need to bridge the gap between the home office and the workplace,” Aberin said.
“Our focus rooms are designed with AV conference setups – including webcams, speakers, curved monitors and plug-in functionality – paired with ergonomic furniture and dimmable lighting to support comfort and productivity.
“Our beach cafe-themed barista bar also provides varied seating options, creating a relaxed atmosphere for different work styles.
“The all-hands space features moveable furniture and a folding wall, making it adaptable for lunches, client meetings, or events.
“Our hidden room is equipped with AV conferencing, a karaoke machine, perfect for team meetings and entertainment.
“Most lounges are also equipped with power points, so employees can work wherever and however they choose.”
Address: L47, 2 Park Street. Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD close to the historic Town Hall.
