Bauer Media has appointed News Corp’s Andrew Cook to its sales team, as its commercial director Paul Gardiner departs.

Cook, who has been general manager of sales for The Australian and the News Prestige Network since 2018, steps into the director of sales role at the publishing house.

Leaving Bauer after more than 14 years, Gardiner returns to New Zealand to head up Ovato as managing director.

“Paul has been an integral part of many of Bauer Media’s recent achievements, including the launch of Bauer’s commercial content division, Story 54, and several landmark research initiatives establishing Bauer as the leading media company when it comes to understanding women,” says Bauer CEO Brendon Hill.

“He has done an outstanding job for the business, and we wish him every success for his next chapter in New Zealand.”

The search for Cook’s replacement has begun, with News Corp to look both internally and externally.

"Andrew's contribution to building the market position of the News Prestige Network has been significant and we'll be sad to lose a trusted colleague,” says managing director for The Australian, NSW & Prestige Titles Nicholas Gray.

“The good news is that he remains with the business until early next year so we have time to plan for a smooth leadership transition, and he will leave a strong team behind him.”
