APEX CEO Pippa Leary has joined Nine in the new role of commercial director of digital sales as the network plans to grow programmatic sales.

Leary has spent the past three years as CEO of Fairfax-Nine programmatic exchange APEX and prior to that held senior executive roles at Fairfax Media, including managing director of the publisher’s digital media division.

"Leary is one of our industry's leading digital executives. Her experience and seniority is without peer and I’m rapt that she is joining our Nine sales leadership team as we invest in the most talented executives to drive growth," Nine chief sales officer Michael Stephenson says.

“She will lead a team that includes some of Australia’s most experienced digital specialists, hand chosen to focus on the key growth areas of programmatic sales, content led sales, video, mobile and native sales.”

Leary will report to Stephenson and Nine’s chief digital and marketing officer Alex Parsons.

The move comes as the company shuffles its executive team, which sees Ben Gunn promoted to the role of director of agency sales, Amy Schubert take on the role of director of sales and content partnership for 9Honey, and Nathan Powell move to director of sales of digital product.

Nine will soon reveal a new director of programmatic sales to compete its senior digital team.

In Nine's digital business, Alex Parsons announced that he was also creating two new executive roles, with Roxanne Hoad promoted to product and audience director and Anna Quinn becoming content and commercial strategy director.

Hoad has previously headed Nine’s digital marketing and was most recently head of product for Nine digital, while Quinn joined Nine ten months ago as head of content strategy, helping in the launch of 9Honey.

Parsons says the new team will help Nine accelerate its growth and remain competitive in the digital landscape.

“The changes being made today will make us even more competitive in the digital landscape as we ramp up our content creation and focus on improving the monetisation of many of our exciting platforms – such as nine.com.au, 9Honey and 9Now – that we have built out over the past few years," he says.

“Together with Pippa’s appointment, this new aligned digital structure will help us to be even more competitive in market as we are able to develop better digital solutions for our clients in brand-safe premium environments.”
