Theo Hourmouzis
AI company Anthropic has appointed Theo Hourmouzis general manager ANZ, and has opened a Sydney office.
The Sydney opening follows offices in Tokyo and Bengaluru, ahead of a planned Seoul opening.
Hourmouzis brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry across Asia Pacific.
He joins from Snowflake, where he most recently served as senior vice president for Australia, New Zealand and ASEAN, overseeing enterprise and public sector clients across financial services, retail, aviation and government.
At Anthropic, Hourmouzis will lead the local team and shape strategy for Australian and New Zealand customers.
"Organisations across Australia and New Zealand are thinking carefully about how to adopt AI, and they want partners who take safety and rigor as seriously as they take the opportunity," said Hourmouzis.
"That's what drew me to Anthropic. I've spent my career working with businesses and governments across this region, and the organisations that do best with AI will be the ones that pair ambition with discipline."
Anthropic continues to grow its team in the region, strengthening relationships with enterprises including the Commonwealth Bank and Quantium, and AI for Science research partners including Australian National University, Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Curtin University.
"Theo's appointment reflects the conviction we share with the Australian government that AI can drive economic growth when it's developed and deployed responsibly," said Chris Ciauri, managing director of international, Anthropic.
"He's spent decades helping organisations adopt new technology, and he'll build the team and partnerships we need to support our customers across Australia and New Zealand for the long term."
Anthropic has also partnered with Canva, Xero and YMCA South Australia.
