ABC News 24 to launch next week

SYDNEY: The ABC has announced that Australia's first free-to-air 24-hour digital news 
channel, ABC News 24, will be launched this month.
The channel will begin broadcasting nationally at 7.30pm AEST, on 22 July, with a launch 
prgram titled "ABC News 24 Launch - ABC News Special", which will air on both ABC1 and ABC 
News 24.
The channel will break Australian and international news, sourcing information from over a 
thousand ABC journalists and a dozen international bureaux.
The channel will also be streamed live online, and will feature on the ABC iPhone 
application.
ABC news director Kate Torney said: "The channel expands the ABC's leadership in 
independent, quality journalism. ABC News 24 is news when you want it, on television, 
online and on mobile."
